Wilmington FFA excels at job interview

Two Wilmington FFA members, Ridgeden Beam and Rachael Billups, set out for Ohio District 9 FFA job interview contest Nov. 9 at Hillsboro High School.

Beam, a sophomore and a second-year FFA member, was in Division 2. Billups was entered in Division 1 as a freshman and a first-year FFA member. Wilmington FFA was successful enough to advance to the District 9 finals from the sub-district competition where there were nine highly competitive schools and only the top two members from each division qualified to move on to districts.

During the contest, applicants fill out a real-world application based on the job chosen from a given list. After the applicant completes the application, they have an interview about their applied job with a member from that team. Once the interview is finished, the applicants move on to compose a thank you letter for their interviewer. The applicants then wait for results.

Ridgeden Beam placed third in Division 2, and Rachael Billups placed second in division one. Both members were honored to make it to district contest and have set their sights to improve their position and compete next year.

Doug Rinehart, FFA advisor, said, “Our members really appreciate all the help in getting us organized and ready to go. We certainly want to thank Mrs. Quallen, Mr. Bone, Mrs. McCarty-Stewart, Mr. Diels and Ms. Havert for conducting mock interviews before both contests.”
