COLUMBUS(AP) — The widow of a former Ohio State University football star says the $6.5 million settlement she’s receiving from a Columbus suburb for the arrest of her late husband is vindication for him but worries his reputation will remain sullied.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Jim Stillwagon’s wife Effie told reporters Friday the five-plus years spent trying to clear Stillwagon’s name have been “torture.”

Stillwagon was arrested by police in the city of Delaware in 2012 after he said he fired a gun in self-defense at a pickup truck during a road rage encounter. Police said the gun fired when Stillwagon struck the motorist with the butt of a handgun.

Felony charges against Stillwagon, who died last February, were dismissed.

He sued Delaware in 2014. The city’s insurer is paying the settlement.
