Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently and violations/comments include:

• The Red Zone Neighborhood Grill, 762 W. Main St., Blanchester, Feb. 4. Critical: Food handler used bare hands to prepare chicken wrap. Food discarded, hands washed, gloves used. Dust accumulated on shelf storing clean dishes (x2). Table-top can opener has food residues on blade. Bar glasses (rims) stored in condensate water of cooler or on rusty shelf in unit. Chicken wings (pre-cooked): 76°F at 5 p.m./made at 1 p.m.). Person in charge elected to re-heat to 165°F and re-cool at proper time/temp parameters. Chopped onions dated Jan. 19 and Jan. 21; jalapenos and turkey breast missing date marks. Person in charge discarded/corrected date marks. Spray bottles (2) with pink chemical missing common name label. Spray bottle of glass cleaner hanging on shelf with clean air drying dishes. Mouse droppings found on floor near hot water heater prep sink, dry stock room and bar area. Dry stock room needs cleaning attention; pest control operator has serviced facility. Clean and monitor facility and continue to work with pest control company.

Handwashing sign missing in men’s restroom. Bulk sugar container missing common name label. Kitchen exit door was propped open. Food handlers not wearing hair restraints. Wet cloth stored on prep table. Handle of ice scoop fund in ice bin at bar. Hair in cutting board used to cut raw chicken. Spoon handle melted used in green beans (warmer). Plates had chipped edges. Reach-in cooler used for bar glasses has rusty shelf and rusty water accumulated in unit. Grease accumulated on sides of dryers. Crumbs/debris accumulated in 3-door reach-in freezer. Shield in ice machine has black pink residues (mold-like). Shelves in walk-in cooler have black residues (mold-like). Quat test strips unavailable at bar. Hood lights above cooking equipment non-working (x2). Light (by door) in walk-in cooler nonworking. Prep sink had dirty water in sink; clogged? Cove trim missing near hand sink in kitchen. Dust accumulated on ceiling and fan covers in walk-in cooler. Black residues (mold-like) on walls/floor in walk-in cooler (even accumulated on thermometer for unit). Sludge accumulation under mop sink on floor. Comments: Status of vent hood upgrade? Cigarettes and related items found at entry of basement; smoking must take place outside the facility. Meat being returned to supplier (in reach-in freezer), label not for sale or remove from premise/return. Water needed for cooking: use prep sink, not handwashing sink; hand sink is only for handwashing. Install proper HVAC vents for server area (instead of moving ceiling tiles).

Follow-up: March 6.

• The Corner Market, 10 Main St., Clarksville, Feb. 5. Critical: Hoagie meat dated Jan. 10. Person in charge stated was old label and put on a current date label. Mouse droppings found in dry stock storage area. Person in charge indicated will clean, monitor and contact pest control company. Mop sink has hose and spray nozzle at faucet; backflow device is needed. The sprayer was stored in 3-sink. Sprayer must be stored above flood level rim of sink to prevent cross connections. Person in charge removed from sink.

Cappuccino dispensing containers missing common name label. Boxes of food on floor in walk-in freezer. Boxes of cups on floor in dry stock room. Cardboard used to line shelf in kitchen and under 3-sink. Hershey retail freezer has ice/frost accumulations. Dust accumulated on ceiling/HVAC vent above sinks. Hand-dip ice cream freezer stored in employee bathroom; old, unused equipment must not be stored on premise. Dumpster missing lids.

Follow-up: March 6.

• Spillway Lodge, 623 Old State Road, Clarksville, Feb. 5. Critical: Eggs from local farm that do not have ODA small egg producer certificate. All supplies must be from approved source. Person in charge ceased use. Accumulation of residues on blade of table-top can opener. Cheesecake/desserts stored on counter. Person in charge placed in cooler. Soda nozzle gun had residues at bar.

Handwashing sign missing at hand sink in kitchen. Paper towels missing at bar hand sink. Salt and sugar missing common name label. Black (staining?) on wood back cutting board. Seal on M3 reach-in cooler and Delfield cooler (kitchen) and True reach-in cooler in server area, seal is damaged. Rust on screws in icemaking machine. Duct tape used as repair of M3 reach-in cooler. Dust accumulated on fan covers in reach-in Delfield cooler. Trash can with lid missing in women’s restroom. Hand sink needs to be caulked (sealed) to wall in kitchen. Tools and duct tape stored in food prep area in kitchen. Leaf blower stored in bar area.
