Letter may have opened some eyes

Recent news indicates that some Americans have turned their COVID-19 anger toward random Asian Americans. For this reason, I applaud Megan Borton and Tyler Williams for their letters to the editor; truly reasonable and meaningful concerns should be shared.

However, the publishing of the earlier letter which they referenced — as it was written — by the News Journal editor may have done more good than bad. It may well have served to open many eyes to the fact that there are still people who just don’t get it.

The pandemic is real. Millions have suffered or been affected in one way or another — the worst way with lives being lost. For anyone to try to make a joke of the virus or the important of facial coverings is way off base.

There’s a a line in the movie “Forrest Gump” that just may sum it up; I’m sure you know it well.
