When Mayor Stanforth announced that he was appointing Brian Shidaker to the position of Public Service/Public Safety director, I was taken aback. Brian was a lawyer and prosecutor with no professional background in engineering or other service responsibilities.

The service director is the highest paid city employee with direct responsibility for all city services from streets to taxi service.

I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that motivation and organizational skills can overcome a lack of experience. The city is a better place for having Brian in place.
