Wilmington and Batavia will square off Thursday in Clermont County for the SBAAC American Division boys soccer championship.

The Hurricane defeated Goshen 1-0 Tuesday night at Alumni Field while the Bulldogs were blasting Clinton-Massie 6-1.

Both Batavia and Wilmington are 6-1-2 in the American Division. Goshen, the third team in the title chase, is now 5-2-2.

“This was by far our most complete game of the season,” WHS head coach Imad El-Macharrafie said. “It was senior night and that group led the way with leadership, grit, and determination from the opening whistle.”

Trevor Billingsley scored the only WHS goal with Cole Bernhardt posting another shutout, his seventh of the season.

“It is worth noting that this is our 16th shutout in the past two seasons under the (defensive) leadership of Avery Warix and Nathan Wood,” El-Macharrafie said. “Eleven of those shutouts have been against SBAAC opponents.”

Bernhardt and his defensive cohorts have allowed just one goal in the last five matches.
