Brausch posts win for WC wrestling

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Wilmington College wrestling team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a 33-18 loss at Muskingum University inside the Anne M. Steele Center Tuesday evening.

The Fightin’ Quakers won four of the seven weight classes contested on the mat.

Wilmington High School graduate Shadrach Brausch defeated Andrew McFee via fall in 2:05 at the 285-pound weight class while Alex Hobbs took 6:06 to dispatch Carter Layton in the 174-pound weight class.

Wilmington’s two other wins came courtesy of decision. Trey Williams defeated Deric Ellyson 6-2 in the 165-pound matchup while Skyler Cowgill bested Tate Sterling 4-0 in the 184-pound weight class.

The Fighting Muskies won in part to claiming the three lightweight classes via forfeit. The other three Muskingum wins came in falls of under 2:15 and one decision victory.

Wilmington (0-1) heads to the Baldwin Wallace Invitational this weekend.
