East Clinton girls overpower Blanchester 80-41

BLANCHESTER — The East Clinton girls basketball team led throughout Monday and defeated Blanchester 80-41 in SBAAC National Division action at the BHS gym.

East Clinton is 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the division.

“We played very well defensively and only had nine turnovers on offense,” EC head coach Bill Bean said.

Blanchester drops to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the National.

The Astros led 18-11 after one quarter but broke the game open in the second period. With Megan Tong, Kelsi Lilly and Jayden Murphy scoring seven points each, East Clinton outscored Blanchester 29-8 in the second and led 47-19 at halftime.

Despite 12 points — on four three-point baskets — in the second half by Zoie Stanforth, Blanchester was unable to get back in to the game. Libby Evanshine had seven points and Lauren Runyon six in the third as EC pulled out to a 68-26 advantage.

Blanchester was led by Stanforth in the scoring game. BHS played without leading scorer Olivia Potts for a second straight game.

Evanshine had 23 for EC to lead all scorers but Lilly scored 12 and Runyon tossed in 11. Jordan Collom scored nine to round out a balanced attack.

Runyon hauled down five rebounds with Collom coming up with seven steals and handing out three assists. Evanshine had seven rebounds, five steals and four assists. Lilly finished with six steals. Murphy had eight rebounds and five steals. Tong grabbed six missed shots.
