Rams edge Hurricane in tennis reunion 3-2

JAMESTOWN — Winning close matches late, Greeneview defeated Wilmington 3-2 Tuesday in a non-league match in Greene County.

“Nice to have the Rams back on the schedule for the first time in 10 years or so,” WHS coach Steve Reed said. “We need to get better at closing matches out. Several of our players got tight when sets got close. We have lost too many tie-breakers so far this season.”

Trey Reed won his singles match while Ian Dalton and Josh Holmes were doubles winners.

“Trey played well after getting down early in the first set 1-4,” coach Reed said. “He then turned around and went up big in the second. His opponent came roaring back so it was good to see him finished in straight sets.

“Josh and Ian are definitely picking up steam as the season goes on. They looked confident today and are starting to move together on the court like an experienced doubles team.”
