WC softball sweeps first OAC twinbill of season

BEXLEY — The Wilmington College softball team pounded out 27 hits in 11 innings of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Capital University Thursday afternoon. The Fightin’ Quakers won game one 7-1 and took the nightcap 12-3 in five innings.

Lindsey Carter homered for Wilmington. Sam Schwab had an RBI and Logann Julian scored on a wild pitch and Judaea Wilson later scored on a passed ball. Wilson had an RBI double and Hayley Suchland singled home another run.

Wilson finished with two doubles, two walks and two runs scored. Suchland, Lizz Hadley, McKenna Archey and Julian all had multi-hit games.

Izzy Rothrock won her first OAC game, scattering five hits with five strikeouts and only allowing a single earned run. Hillary Huffer earned a hold by pitching a perfect seventh inning.

In the second game, Wilmington’s offense kept going, scoring three runs in the first and three more in the second. The Quakers put the game away with a six-run third inning.

Wilmington used four pitches in the game with Alexis Stringfellow getting the win having not allowed a hit in two innings. Hannah Hall, Huffer and Carter also pitched.

The Quakers pounded 15 hits in the game including three from Suchland and two from Wilson, Hadley and Claire Scully.

Wilmington, which swept an OAC series for the first time this season, improves to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in conference games. The Quakers have a quick turnaround as they hit the road tomorrow Friday for Alliance and an OAC doubleheader with the University of Mount Union.
