New Richmond High School athletic director/dean of students Doug Foote has been elected president of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Southwest District for 2016-2017.

Foote, who is beginning his ninth year with New Richmond schools, was first appointed to the District board in 2013 and elected to a six-year term in 2015 by a vote of principals from schools within the Southwest District which covers 15 Ohio counties stretching from Cincinnati to Indian Lake.

A graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School and Morehead State University, Foote coached basketball for 26 years, including at the college level at Rio Grande University and Marietta College, where he was the men’s basketball coach for 15 years before coming to New Richmond.

He recently received three prestigious local, state and national awards including Southwest District’s Athletic Administrator of the Year by the Southwest Ohio Athletic Directors Association; the Meritorious Service Award recipient given by the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association; and the Award of Merit given by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association
