Falcons bounce back after first loss of season

WAYNESVILLE — After suffering its first defeat of the season Monday against Lebanon, Clinton-Massie defeated Waynesville 3-2 Tuesday in non-league tennis.

The Falcons, 13-1 on the year, had a huge win from Maria Jones in a marathon match at second singles, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

“The match last over three hours and almost every game went deuce,” CM coach Julia Kirby said. “Maria had to dig deeper than I have ever seen her play and kept her composure through a long, difficult match.”

Both doubles team won easily for Clinton-Massie.

“Double remain undefeated,” Kirby said. “Noel Gasaway has been on another level this week. Her playing has improved to much from last year to the beginning of the season to now. She really anchors our team and has become one of the most reliable players.”
