OWENSVILLE — Holding Clermont Northeastern to 24 points under its season average, East Clinton posted an easy 56-19 win Monday over the Rockets in SBAAC National Division girls basketball action.
The Rockets (4-1 overall, 2-1 National) came in to the game on a four-game winning streak and averaging 43 points per contest. But the Astros defense held CNE in check all night, limiting the Rockets to five points in the second half.
East Clinton (6-1 overall, 2-0 National) did not score in the final quarter.
Kami Whiteaker had eight of her game-high 15 points in the opening period as the Astros raced out to a 22-7 lead.
Jayden Murphy scored seven in the opening frame and finished with 12 for the game.
Jordan Collom had 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and five steals for the Astros. Libby Evanshine had 11 points and seven rebounds.
East Clinton was 21 for 33 from the field, which is good, but the Astros were exceptional inside the three-point arc, making 14 of 17 attempts.
