Barons bounce Blanchester 50-41

BLANCHESTER – A disastrous night at the free throw line proved costly to Blanchester in a 50-41 loss to Amelia in non-league girls basketball action Monday afternoon at the BHS gym.

Amelia (2-6 on the year) was 11 for 13 at the free throw line, including 5 of 6 in the final quarter.

Blanchester (7-3 on the year) was 3 for 7 at the line as it put on a furious fourth quarter rally.

But overall the Ladycats were just 5 for 18 at the line. Blanchester was just 0 for 3 at the line in the second quarter and 1 for 6 in the third.

Tristan Culberson was the game’s top scorer, draining a trio of 3-pointers and finishing with 13 points.

Sarah Burton had 8 for Blanchester, all in the first half.

Shelby Hatcher had 11 points to lead Amelia, with 10 coming in the third quarter.

Kendall Kaiser had 10 points, 8 in the first half.

Blanchester led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter with Burton swishing a pair of 3-pointers to get BHS off to a good start.

The Ladycats maintained its lead at the halftime break, 23-20. Culberson found the mark with 8 points in the quarter.

Amelia took complete control of the game in the third, outscoring BHS 19-5 in the quarter.
