MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Clinton-Massie softball team improved to 17-3 on the year with a pair of wins in Myrtle Beach.

The Lady Falcons were 17-1 winners over Wilson, N.Y. in the first game Tuesday morning then came back defeat Myrtle Beach 3-1 Tuesday night.

“The second game was definitely the best game of the day,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “This wasn’t our best hitting game of the week but we strung some hits together when we needed it.”

Lauer said Myrtle Beach is a 4A school in South Carolina. “Bigger than any school we have played in our area,” he said.

Lindsey Carter and Taylor Florea were dominant on the mound in the two games. They combined for 22 strikeouts in 12 innings.

In the second game, Kendall Anderson had a big two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning to put CM on top 3-1. Hailey Clayborn led off the third with her first homerun of the season over the left field fence.

“This was a huge homerun by Hailey,” Lauer said. “It gave us a little spark that we were lacking.”
