Mikayla Wonderley, Christopher Stewart, Katie Murphy, Dakota Collum, McKenzie Avery and Seth Akers have earned berths in the Elks Hoops Shoot district event next month.
During the local Elks 797 competition Dec. 12 at Wilmington High School, the aforementioned 6 student-athletes won their respective divisions and are eligible to compete Jan. 16 at Wilmington College’s Fred Raizk Arena.
Competitors from the other 12 Elks lodges in the Southwest District will also be competing at WC on Jan. 16.
Wonderley, from Clinton-Massie, was first in the girls 8-9 year old division. Elly Martin of Wilmington’s East End Elementary was the runnerup.
Stewart, from Holmes Elementary in Wilmington, was first in the boys 8-9 year old division while Josh Tolliver of Denver Place Elementary in Wilmington was the runnerup.
In the girls 10-11 year old division, Murphy of Denver Place was first with Maddie Phipps of Clinton-Massie second.
Collum of New Vienna was first in the boys 10-11 year old group with Drew Robinson of Clinton-Massie the runnerup.
Avery of Clinton-Massie was first in the girls 12-13 age group while Emily Sholler of Sabina was second.
Akers of Blanchester won the boys 12-13 age group with Colin Ames of the Rodger O. Borror Middle School finishing second.
