WC splits ‘19 softball finale with Heidelberg

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College softball team concluded its season with a doubleheader split Sunday with Heidelberg in Ohio Athletic Conference play at the WC softball complex.

Wilmington finishes its 2019 season with an 18-14 overall record, marking the second time in program history (20-16 in 2012) the Quakers have achieved a winning record. Additionally, the program’s 6-12 OAC record is the second-best (8-10 in 2014) record in Wilmington’s 19 years in the league.

Wilmington won the first game 3-0 behind the pitching effort of Grace Shell, who allowed two hits and two bases on balls in seven innings. The win was Shell’s 10th of the season.

Hayley Suchland knocked in Megan Crager with the only run Shell would need in the third inning. KenDahl Bowles and Kennedy Clifton added RBIs in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Suchland and Micalah Hensley drove in runs but Heidelberg scored a 5-2 win.

Alexis Stringfellow took the loss for WC. Mariyah Burkhardt made her season pitching debut with 6.2 innings of solid relief.

Clifton, Alecia Kemp and Je’Taysia Johns had two hits each for Wilmington.
