BETHEL -Kassidy Abney drove in four runs and Blanchester upset Bethel-Tate 5-3 in a Division III Sectional softball game at BTHS.

The win puts Blanchester (4-18 overall, 4-8 SBAAC) in the second round of the tournament at home Wednesday against Clark Montessori. First pitch is 5 p.m.

Coming in to the game, Bethel-Tate was the 9 seed while Blanchester was the 13 seed.

The win also was a SBAAC National Division victory for BHS, who lost to Bethel-Tate 2-1 in the other meeting this season.

Rianna Mueller scattered six his and gave up two earned runs. She struck out six and walked none.

“After the way this season has gone at times, it’s nice to get that first win in the tournament,” BHS coach Jamey Grogg said. “Rianna pitched a great game. She really did a nice job of working inside and outside.”
