‘Burg leads Blan in both boys, girls SBAAC meets

BATAVIA – Williamsburg has a 31.5 point lead on Blanchester after the first day of the SBAAC National Division Girls Track & Field Championship meet Monday at Batavia High School.

The finals will be contested Wednesday at Batavia.

WHS has 78 points while BHS has 46.5. East Clinton has six points.

On the boys side, ‘Burg leads Blan 38-26. East Clinton is fifth.

Savanna Schutte and Taylor Cochran of Blanchester became the first blue and white track athletes to score in a league meet in the pole vault in more than 30 years.

Schutte was second overall while Cochran was third.

BHS discontinued the pole vault following a mishap during a meet.

Regan Ostermeier of BHS suffered her first loss of the year in the discus but won the shot put easily.

For the boys, Aidan Henson of EC went 20-6.5 to win the long jump.

BHS clocked in with 8:36.14 to win the 4×800-meter relay. The team consisted of Tanner Creager, Ricky Davis, Tyler Holland and Hunter Browning.

Clayton Schirmer was the National Division high jump champ by clearing 5-10.

In events that were final, the top six score. In preliminaries, the top eight advance to the finals on Wednesday.

The following are preliminary events with finals set to run Wednesday.

In the 100-meter dash, East Clinton put a pair of runners to the finals – Emma Malone seventh and Brittney Wheeler eighth.

In the 400, Alexis Davis toured the oval in 65.94, which was fastest qualifying time.

In the 200, Kenzie Cottle of BHS is fourth fastest and teammate Madi Berrien is seventh. EC’s Wheeler is eighth.

In the 300 hurdles, Becca Kratzer of BHS is third and Emma Winemiller of BHS is seventh. Kenton Deaton of EC has the eighth fastest qualifying time.

On the boys side, Clayton Schirmer clocked 16.98 to post the top time in the 110-meter hurdles. Carter Stevens is third going to the finals.

Blanchester’s Brent Hopkins and Lucas Thacker are going to the finals in the 100-meter dash.

In the 400 prelims, Aidan Henson is second fastest while Tanner Creager of BHS is third and teammate Ricky Davis is fourth.

In the 300 hurdles, Carter Stevens of BHS is third and Cameron Gibson is seventh. Michael Horn of EC is fourth.

Two Wildcats – Brent Hopkins second and Brady Phillips third – moved on to the finals in the 200-meter dash as did EC’s Todd Wedding who is eighth.
