Burns first, Lady ‘Cane fourth at Hurricane Invitational

WILMINGTON — Claire Burns was Wilmington’s lone winner Saturday at the Hurricane Invitational tennis tournament on the WHS courts.

Burns won the first singles bracket as the Lady Hurricane finished fourth overall in the team standings.

Burns rallied to win her championship match over Mazurek of Springboro 2-6, 7-5, (10-0).

Springboro was first in the team standings with Miamisburg runnersup.

Wilmington’s Josie Nichols was third at third singles.

• Jenna Taylor, Emilee Pham were def by Bussert, Hill (M) 2-8; def Dye, Goddard (LM) 8-0; def Dotson, Smith (NW) 8-3. Finished fifth.

Second Doubles

• Rachel Barker, Gracie Conger were def by Gibson, Sen (WC) 4-8; def Worth, Newsome (W) 8-0; were def by Limes, Tanner (NW) 6-8. Finished sixth.
