Wilmington’s Huffman second at Cross the Creek Invite

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE – A second-place finish by Wilmington freshman Sophie Huffman paced the locals Saturday at the Cross the Creek Invitational cross county meet at the Walters’ Family Farm.

Huffman finished just 11 seconds off the race winner with a time of 20:51.77. The Hurricane had three finishers in the top 33, helping WHS to a fourth-place finish. Marysville was the girls’ race winner with five finishers in the top 11.

The other scoring finishers for Wilmington were Sylena Baltazar (27th), Emma Simpson (33rd), Shannon O’Boyle (60th) and Kalli Abbitt (68th).

East Clinton had two runners in the girls race. Carah Antek finished 49th in 26:12.54, and Kara Pratt was 91st.

In the boys race, East Clinton’s Aidan Henson was the top local finisher. He crossed the line in ninth place in 17:24.40.

Wilmington had five boys in the top 42, helping the Hurricane to a fifth-place finish. Tyler Parks was 16th in 18:07.04. Tyler Preston was 24th, Garrett Stoffer 26th, Sam Eastes 33rd and Pedro Escobedo 42nd.

Other scoring Astros included Justin Arnold (66th), Lasse Hoffmann (70th), Zach Vest (85th) and Richard Wood (106). The Astros finished ninth out of the 15 teams in the race.
