WHS girls 2nd, boys 4th at Bellbrook Invitational

BEAVERCREEK – The Wilmington girls swim team finished second out of nine teams and the Hurricane boys finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Bellbrook Invitational Saturday at the Dayton Raider Aquatics Center.

“Both teams are performing well as we start to think about the championship part of the season beginning with the SCOL championships on Feb. 6 at Wilmington College,” said WHS head coach Mitch Hopf.

Clinton-Massie’s boys team finished seventh while the girls team finished ninth.

Alyssa Lewis led the Hurricane by winning the 200-yard freestyle and placing second in the 100-yard freestyle. She teamed with Alison Dooley, Morgan Bahr and Brianna Gilbert for third-place in the 200-yard medley relay and with Dooley, Bahr and Olivia Lewis for second in the 400-yard free relay.

Other top Hurricane individuals in the girls meet include Dooley with fourth-place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Gethsemane Bray with a fourth-place finish in the 500 free, Bahr with fifth-place finishes the 200 free and 100 fly, Gilbert with fifth-place finishes in the 50 and 500 free, Olivia Lewis with a fourth-place finish in the 100 back and a seventh-place finish in the 50 free, McKinley Law with a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM; and Rachael Billups with sixth- and seventh-place finishes in the 100 fly and back, respectively.

Other top Hurricane relay finishers include the fifth-place 200 free relay team of Olivia Lewis, Law, Billups and Gilbert; and the sixth-place 400 free relay team of Anna Garnai, Meredith Robinson, Maddie Adkins and Bray.

Gracie Storm led the Falcons girls team with third- and sixth-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke, respectively. She also teamed with Cat Hodge, Heather Myers and Margo Brooker to finish seventh in the 200 free relay.

Austin Carey, Ricky Dungan, Sam Osborn and Harrison led the Wilmington boys. Carey logged a second-place finish in the 50 free and a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Osborn had a fifth-place finish in the 100 free and a sixth-place in the 100 free. Dungan tallied a second in the 500 free and a third in the 200 free. Law took fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 fly. That quartet finished third in the 400 free and fourth in the 200 medley relays.

Drew Puckett was the lone CM individual boys scorer with a fifth in the 200 and 500 free. He joined Caeleb Carter, Noah Brausch and Cole Isaacs to take eighth-place in the 400 free relay and ninth in the 200 free relay.

The two schools plus Hillsboro and Chillicothe will square off in a South Central Ohio League quad meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Wilmington College pool.
