BEREA – The Wilmington College football team ended the first quarter up 3-0, but Baldwin Wallace University dominated the final three quarters in a 72-9 Ohio Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

The Fightin’ Quakers defense stood tall on the first drive forcing in an incomplete pass on 4th-and-9 from the Wilmington 37.

The visitors promptly drove deep into BW territory, but settled for a Tyler Butcher 24-yard field goal. Trailing 3-0, the Yellow Jackets once again got into Wilmington territory, but a botched snap on a field goal attempt gave the Quakers the ball back with the lead.

Baldwin Wallace forced a Wilmington punt near midfield and drove 82 yards in 10 plays looking to gain its first lead of the game. Once again, however, the Quaker defense got a stop on 3rd-and-goal. This time, the Yellow Jackets made the kick, a 20-yard field goal off the foot of Dean Sarris to tie the game.

That would be the last time Wilmington’s defense would stop Baldwin Wallace on the afternoon. The Yellow Jackets scored on their final two drives of the first half, including a two-minute drill, and each drive in the second half.

Baldwin Wallace had 567 yards of offense — 254 passing and 313 rushing. Wilmington finished with 153 total yards, its lowest output of the season. The Quakers lost four fumbles on the wet afternoon while the Yellow Jackets fumbled once.

Malik Sims carried eight times for a career-high 70 yards while Itika Wynn Jr. hauled in three passes for 57 yards for Wilmington.

Defensively, Tre’Quez Parks and Ameer Jackson finished with double digits in tackles for the Quakers.

The win vaults BW to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in OAC competition while Wilmington dips to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in conference competition.

Wilmington heads to No. 13 John Carroll this Saturday.
