Blanchester High School wrestling product Clayton Schirmer is among the top members of the Wilmington College wrestling team.

The WC program, in its second season since being resurrected after a seven-year hiatus, opened last weekend at the Adrian Invitational.

Wilmington wrestles again Wednesday at Heidelberg, the alma mater of WC head coach Justin Kihn. Wilmington’s first home match will be Nov. 19 against Otterbein.

Schirmer, who had 149 career wins under Scott Nicely at BHS, was one of three WC wrestlers to win a match at the season-opener.

Several wrestlers with ties to Wilmington are on the WC roster.

Jaymon Flaugher, a freshman, is a graduate of Miami Trace High School.

Zack Gutknecht, a freshman, is a graduate of Bethel-Tate High School and tallied 81 prep wins.

Seth Jermer, a sophomore, is a graduate of Western Brown’s wrestling program.

Brennen Greene, also a freshman, won 98 career matches at Jackson High School. Gabe Obregon, a sophomore from Bowling Green, won 87 high school matches.

Bruno Pattison, a freshman from Bellefontaine, finished seventh in the state tournament. Adrian Salamone, a freshman from Paint Valley HS, won 97 matches as a Bearcat.
