‘Cane swimmers open with wins over CM, WHS

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington boys and girls swimming teams notched season-opening victories against Waynesville and Clinton-Massie in a double-dual meet Tuesday at Wilmington College.

The boys team beat Waynesville 152-71 and Clinton-Massie 151-53 and the girls team beat Waynesville 142-99 and Clinton-Massie 159-62.

Waynesville’s boys and girls swept Clinton-Massie 96-66 and 118-75, respectively.

The Hurricane swept all six relays. Individual winners include Aidan Hester in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle, Ben Baylor in the 50 free, Abby Greene and Andrew Delph in the 100 fly, Petra Bray and Josh Andrews in the 100 free, Shannon O’Boyle in the 400 free, Luke Mulvey in the 100 back, and Maddie Steinmetz and Andrews in the 100 breaststroke.

Massie’s best boys finish came from Charlie Hale in the 200 individual medley. The Falcons’ best girls finishes were seconds by Alissa Muterspaw in the 100 free and the 200 free relay team.
