LEES CREEK — Fairfield dominated from the beginning and defeated East Clinton 62-40 Wednesday night in a non-league girls basketball game at the EC gym.

“Fair

field is a nice team with two post players inside and three shooters around them,” EC coach Jeff Craycraft said.

Libby Evanshine had 16 points and three assists for the Lady Astros. Gracie Evanshine had eight points “and continues to improve each game,” Craycraft said.

East Clinton is 1-3 on the season.

Gracie Boggs had six rebounds, five of those on the offensive end. Kelsi Lilly had four points and four rebounds. Josie Jones came off the bench and contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

East Clinton trailed 18-8 in the first quarter but “turned up pressure with a zone press and cut their lead to two,” said the EC coach.

The Lions pushed the margin of difference back to 24 in the third period.

“We are not patient when attaching zones,”said Craycraft. “(It) takes multiple ball reversals, good spacing and movement to attack a zone. We will get better attacking zones as we gain experience. We need to take care of the ball better. We will continue to work in practice to address this.”

Craycraft said he was encouraged by his squad’s physical play in the fourth quarter. He called it encouraging.
