LEES CREEK — With a strong defensive effort, East Clinton knocked off SBAAC National Division front-runner Clermont Northeastern Thursday night 49-42 at the EC gym.

The young Lady Astros even their record all the way around, 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the division.

The Lady Rockets are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the National.

“It was a physical game,” EC coach Jeff Craycraft said. “CNE starts five seniors with a lot of experience. Both teams competed hard.”

There were 50 free throws attempted in the game.

“It is hard to get into any offensive rhythm when so many fouls are being called but we were more patient (then Clermont Northeastern),” Craycraft said. “Each player played a significant role in this win. This was a total team effort.”

Freshman Libby Evanshine was 13 for 15 at the free throw line and finished with 23 points. She also led with 13 rebounds.

As a team, East Clinton was 23 for 31 at the free throw line.

Kelsi Lilly had 11 points while Kami Whiteaker had five assists and four rebounds. Gracie Evanshine and Jaden Murphy played well defensively. Gracie Boggs and Jozie Jones totaled nine rebounds at the center position for EC.

Clermont Northeastern made just 13 of 69 field goal attempts, including 5 of 23 beyond the three-point arc.
