Hurricane storms WCH in wrestling opener 55-20

WASHINGTON CH — After five bouts, Wilmington and Washington were in a closely-contested season-opening wrestling match Wednesday night at Washington Senior High School.

Then the Hurricane blew away the competition and had two records on the way.

Four straight pins put some distance between the two teams and Wilmington went on to a 55-20 win over Washington in a battle of former South Central Ohio League rivals.

“Very strong beginning to the season,” WHS coach Kelly Tolliver said.

Starting competition at 126 pounds, Wilmington led 16-9 five matches in. Then seniors Dalton Garrison and Kile Holland posted pins to put WHS up 28-9. Jevon Bays-King and Logan Current were on the mat a combined 25 seconds for pins that made it 40-9.

Freshmen Jaden Snyder, Thane McCoy and Devon Snyder closed the win with victories.

In the record department, Logan Current set a school record with a nine second pin in the 195-pound weight class.

Then four matches later, McCoy broke that mark with a four-second pin in a 113-pound match.
