CM second half turnaround falls short, 52-49

GOSHEN — After a miserable second quarter, the Clinton-Massie girls basketball team showed some grit but their rally fell short to Goshen 52-49 Monday night.

The SBAAC American Division loss puts the Lady Falcons at 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the division. The Lady Warriors are 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the American.

Clinton-Massie, coming off its first win of the season on Saturday, led Goshen 12-9 after one. Patience Chowning had four points but five Massie girls scored.

In the second, though, Goshen broke the game open with 25 points. Hannah Doss had four points but Massie trailed 32-21 at halftime.

“Second quarter was a killer for us,” CM coach Tim McGraw said. “We turned the ball over 24 times in the first half.”

But CM came out ready to go in the third period. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Warriors 16-2 in the period and were on top going to the final frame, 37-34. Doss, Chowning and Miranda Crawford scored four points each in the third as the Massie offense was in full stride.

“That shows a lot about this group and them not giving up,” said McGraw. “We continue to battle, play hard and be in these games, we just have to find a way to get over the hump.”

The Falcons had just eight turnovers in the second half but in the end Goshen held on for the win.

Chowning’s 13 led CM while Doss and Maddie Phipps added 10 points each.
