DAYTON — Host Stebbins cashed in 14 Wilmington turnovers for 26 points in a 79-56 victory over the visiting Hurricane Friday. The defeat is Wilmington’s third straight.

Eight of those points came off four Wilmington turnovers during a 12-2 run the first half of the opening period.

Stebbins (7-1) led by as much as 19-7 late in the first quarter. It was mostly back-and-forth after that until Wilmington managed to whittle Stebbins’ cushion to 35-30 in the final minute of the first half.

Stebbins scored the last bucket of the first half and the first two of the second half, two of the buckets coming after steals, to push its margin back to 41-30.

Wilmington (3-4) got to within 43-37 at the 6:15 mark of the third quarter on a Cam Coomer deuce and trey and another trey by Matt Butcher on consecutive possessions. That’s as close as the Hurricane would get the rest of the evening.

Stebbins responded with another 12-2 spurt to extend its advantage to 55-39. It had yet another 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to build its largest lead of the evening, 77-52 with 2:46 left in the game.

Jalen Tolbert came off the Stebbins bench to lead all scorers with 22 points. Teammates Jake Reed and Nate Keller reached double-figures with 13 and 11, respectively.

Coomer led the Hurricane with 19. Butcher added 15.
