BEAVERCREEK — A sluggish third quarter doomed the Wilmington High School girls basketball team Saturday in a 44-34 non-league loss at Beavercreek.

Both teams are 5-5 on the year.

Karlie Morgan led Wilmington with 12 points.

Sami McCord had nine points, six rebounds and two assists. Jasmine Jamiel led with four assists while Sophie Huffman came up with a team-best three steals.

Beavercreek jumped out to an 11-5 lead at the end of the first quarter but Wilmington made a game of it by halftime, down 16-14. McCord was held scoreless in the first half and Jamiel had just two. Morgan scored five in the first half.

But in the third period, Wilmington fell back 33-23 by the end of the third. Morgan had four of WHS’s nine points.

In the fourth, Wilmington was unable to overtake Beavercreek and lost by 10.

Neither team shot well from the free throw line – WHS was 6 for 15 and BHS was 2 for 7. Wilmington had trouble at the line in the fourth, as a 3 for 10 performance stymied the comeback attempt. Beavercreek was 1 for 4 at the line in the fourth.
