The 2004-09 East Clinton High School graduates team won the third annual EC Project TRUST event “Hoops for TRUST” Friday at the EC gym.

The basketball tournament is a fund-raising project for the East Clinton Middle School’s Project TRUST camps. The event raised more than $800.

Teams were organized based on graduating year. The ‘04-‘09 team came out on top with a 2-0 record. Coming in second place was the ‘17-‘19 team with a 1-1 record. The ‘13-‘17 team finished at the bottom at 0-2.

The final game of the evening was between the ‘04-‘09 team and the ‘17-‘19 team to determine the tournament champs. The game went into overtime and eventually ended with the ‘04-‘09 team up by five points.

Project TRUST is a camp for ECMS students. The Project TRUST motto is “be nice out there!” The purpose of this camp is to teach kids about the importance of respect and understanding for all people.

Project TRUST and Camp Kern staff provide opportunities to use teamwork to overcome challenges and obstacles. The kids also spend time learning about bully prevention. ECMS takes 80-85 students to camp each year.

Tournament donations and volunteers were Kairos Coffee for providing a donation; Erik Moore for running the scoreboard; Seth Garrison, DJ Luttrell and Jayden Luttrell for volunteering to officiate the games; Aidan Henson, Kenton Deaton and Makenzie Weiner, ECPT counselors, for volunteering; and the EC Athletic Boosters for the use of the concession stand.
