Front-running Lions hold off Falcons 70-61

NEW RICHMOND — The homestanding New Richmond Lions finished strong and held off Clinton-Massie 70-61 Friday night in SBAAC American Division boys basketball.

The winless Falcons pushed the league-leading Lions to the brink before falling late.

New Richmond led 19-14 after one and held a 32-24 advantage at halftime.

Carter Euton had 10 points in the first half to pace the Massie offense.

But Massie battled back in the third, outscoring New Richmond 16-8 in the period. Going to the fourth, the game was tied at 40-40.

Nate Baker scored six in the third while Tate Olberding added four.

For all the offensive struggles the two teams had through three periods, they exploded in the fourth.

The teams combined for 51 points in the final quarter with the Lions pulling away for the nine-point win.

Massie was led by Fauett and Brendan Lamb who had five each in the final quarter.

The win puts New Richmond at 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the American. It keeps the Lions in a first-place tie with Wilmington, who defeated Western Brown on Friday.

Clinton-Massie drops to 0-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Euton was the top scorer with 14 points while Baker added 11
