MARIETTA — Four individuals scored in double figures as the Wilmington College women’s basketball team defeated Marietta College 75-65 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at Ban Johnson Arena Saturday.

Offense was at a premium in the first quarter as Wilmington made four field goals, including the final two of the period from Michelle Lee, and Marietta made just a trio of three-pointers over the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was just the opposite as the Quakers outscored the Pioneers 29-20.

Marietta scored the first five points to lead 14-10, but Wilmington stormed back with a 14-4 run capped by four free throws from Kennedy Lewis. A Pioneer three from Marlo Taylor ended the run, but the Quakers scored three of the last four baskets of the half – Ellen Nilback, McKayla Binkley and Hannah Binkley – to take a 39-29 advantage into halftime.

The Pioneers pulled within seven points on three occasions in the second half, but the Quakers had the answer each time, sealing their first win in Ban Johnson Arena since Dec. 6, 2014.

“We knew we had to get better defensively and today we did just that,” Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve said. “It was a good team win.”

Individually, Lee led all scorers with 18 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting to go along with five rebounds. McKayla Binkley had 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals while Lewis and Zahrya Bailey also scored in double figures.

Alexis Enochs led Marietta with 17 points while Camille Cummins grabbed 17 rebounds in defeat.

Wilmington (7-4, 3-1 OAC) heads to Capital University Wednesday evening.
