BBK Final: Valley View 60 Clinton-Massie 40

ADAMS TOWNSHIP – Clinton-Massie remained winless in nine outings this season after a 60-40 loss to Germantown Valley View at Brian P. Mudd Court Tuesday.

The Spartans (5-4), which led the entire evening, wasted no time scoring, winning the tip and scoring within seconds and then stealing the subsequent inbound pass and immediately scoring again.

Massie caught Valley View at 9-9 midway through the quarter, but Valley View rattled off 10 of the next 12 points for a 19-11 advantage after a quarter.

The Falcons scored the first five points of the second quarter to make it 19-16. That was as close as they would get as the Spartans scored 12 of the next 14 to take a 31-18 cushion into the intermission.

Valley View’s lead bounced between 10 and 16 points most of the second half until a parade of free throws toward the end of the game set the final margin.

“We need to continue to keep on fighting, having a good attitude and working hard. The work ethic is there. We’re doing what we can as a coaching staff to make adjustments. We just need to find an ingredient to get us over this hump,” CM head coach Todd Cook said. “When things are going well, it’s fun and we’re energetic. When things start getting away from us, it’s almost like we feel sorry for ourselves, or we don’t know how to get out of that funk. If we get a win, then we can move forward with some confidence.”

Massie’s Brendan Lamb led all scorers with 17 points. Valley View center Justin Bromagen led the Spartans with 15, many of them coming in the paint.

“We got manhandled inside. The big guy had his way with us,” Cook said. “We had trouble boxing out.”

Massie finishes the week with a couple of road tilts at Goshen Friday and East Clinton Saturday.
