Women’s track, field fifth at Pioneer Open

MARIETTA – The Wilmington College women’s track and field team began the 2020 portion of its schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Pioneer Open Saturday at Marietta College.

The Fightin’ Quakers tied with host Marietta for fifth place with 56 total points. Fellow Ohio Athletic Conference member Capital University ended the meet with three more points while West Virginia Wesleyan University won the meet with 101.5 points.

Two Wilmington individuals topped the 5,000-meter run as Milena Wahl (19:41.91) won the event and Clinton-Massie graduate Katie Hughes (20:48.19) took second. Sydney Yontz won the 1,000-meter run 3:30.08. Those three also teamed up with Emma Burke to win the distance medley relay in 13:54.33.

Cheyenne Rhodes, a Blanchester graduate, was the other Quaker in track events to place, taking fifth in the 500-meter run (1:29.85).

In field events, Kayli Sullivan placed in both the shot put and weight throw — sixth in the shot put 35-1 and seventh in the weight throw 44-3.5. Keva Cox registered a seventh-place finish in the women’s high jump by clearing 4-9.75 while Jenna Henneman took eighth in the pole vault 9-2.25.

Wilmington returns to action next weekend at the OAC-NCAC-HCAC Challenge at Wittenberg University.
