Hurricane leads county at SBAAC JH wrestling tourney

There were eight champions from Clinton County at the SBAAC Middle School Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Goshen High School.

Wilmington’s Rodger O. Borror Middle School finished as the tournament runnersup with Blanchester fourth, Clinton-Massie fifth and East Clinton 11th. Blanchester was fifth among National Division schools.

Goshen won the tournament with New Richmond placing third.

For Wilmington, Alex Smith finished first at 160 pounds and PJ McKnight was first in the 245 pound weight class. Smith pinned Isaiah Potts of Goshen in 3:49 while McKnight pinned Jaden Dawson of Batavia in 40 seconds at 245.

Ty Stuckey was runnerup at 80 pounds and Cadyn Denniston finished second at 134 pounds.

O’Ryan Keith finished third at 150 and Brylin Ruddle was third at 205.

For Blanchester, Caleb Sears won the 80-pound title with a 7-5 decision over Stuckey of Wilmington. Zack Musselman was the 104-pound champion, pinning Drew Patton of Western Brown in 33 seconds in the title match. Michael Mulvihill was the third Wildcat to win a title, escaping with an 8-7 decision over Josh Vilardo of Bethel-Tate for the 142-pound crown.

Jude Huston at 128 and Connor Begley at 134 were both fourth-place fnishers for Blanchester.

For Clinton-Massie, Gatlin Newkirk was the champ at 92 with a 1:29 pin of Luke Schmidt of Goshen. Jack Elkins followed with a 3:33 pin of Aiden Greene of Williamsburg to win the 98-pound weight class.

Third-place finishers for the Falcons were Cody Lisle at 80 pounds and Hunter Monds at 128. Ethan Kuhlman was fourth at 86 and Cash Mounce was fourth at 110.

For East Clinton, Kaleb Bauman won the crown at 116 pounds with a 9-0 victory over Riley Shelton of Batavia.

Colton Brockman was runnerup at 110 and Owen Roberts was fourth at 172 pounds.
