WC baseball opens season 0-3

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Wilmington College baseball team concluded its opening weekend with an 0-3 record.

The Quakers lost a close on Sunday to Blackburn College, 2-1.

WC had its opportunities to take an early lead but wasted chances in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. WC hit into five double plays in the game.

Luke Kleindl drove home Caleb Scott with the Quakers only run of the game in the ninth.

Kleindl took the loss, pitching in to the sixth inning. Matt Oney pitched well in relief of Kleindl.

Scott and Kleindl both had two hits for Wilmington.

Wilmington (0-3) hosts Elmhurst College (Ill.) for a doubleheader Saturday.

On Saturday, Wilmington lost to University of Wisconsin-Stout 5-0 and North Central College 16-1.

In the first game, Luke Chappie pitched 6 1/3 innings in his collegiate starting debut. He gave up three earned runs and struck out two. Cameron Harbert followed in relief.

Nick Silvis and Aaron Burns had two hits each while Gavin Perkins and Kleindl had one hit each.

Lance Fleischman pitched four scoreless innings to start the game but NCC plated nine runs in the fifth.

Scott, who homered, had the only hit for Wilmington.
