UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Wilmington College women’s basketball team fell to John Carroll University 77-59 in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon.

Coincidentally, the Quakers will return to University Heights Tuesday evening for an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal as the No. 7 seed.

Wilmington did not lead the entire game. After misses from both teams to open the contest, Hannah Bouchy and Dani Carlson scored for JCU while McKayla Binkley and Hannah Binkley scored for the Quakers. The hosts then went on a 10-2 run over five minutes, and despite Brooke Davis snapping the skid with a three-pointer, the Blue Streaks led 21-11 after one quarter.

A 9-0 run to open the second gave JCU a 30-11 lead, and the Blue Streaks held that double-digit advantage throughout.

John Carroll finished the game 30-of-78 (38.5 percent) from the field while hitting 7-of-20 (35.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Wilmington made 23-of-66 (34.8 percent) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from three-point distance. The Blue Streaks made one more free throw (10-9) on one more attempt (15-14) and won the rebounding battle 52-44.

McKayla Binkley led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Davis added 11 points and seven boards off the bench while Kelly Noll grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.

Four Blue Streaks finished in double figures including double-double performances from both Nicole Heffington (21 points and 12 rebounds) and Olivia Nagy (13 points and 15 rebounds). Carlson and Jaylen Hoffman also finished with 10-plus points for the hosts.

Wilmington concludes the regular season with an 11-14 overall record for the third consecutive season. The Quakers’ OAC Tournament quarterfinal at JCU is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
