The Clinton County Farmers and Sportsman’s Association (CCFSA) held its annual Youth Skeet Camp last week.
Eighteen participants, ranging from ages 12-18, spent three days on the ranges learning the shotgun game of Skeet.
The camp is financially supported through grant monies provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources “Step Outside Grant”. Also the Ohio Gun Collectors Association partnered with the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation to help support the camp. Camp would not be possible without the support of these organizations.
Safety is the number one goal of the camp followed by fun and marksmanship. Each day the morning started with safety instruction including reminders about social distancing and wearing masks at all times inside the clubhouse.
The game of Skeet consists of eight stations where shooters attempt to hit moving clay targets for a total of 25 clays per round. Three participants identified as “Top Shot” for their group were Carter Amstutz for group one, Daniel Defossee for group two and Wade Cox for group three.
Cindy Warren was the camp coordinator and a range safety officer. John Tonkin was an RSO and the CCFSA Shotgun Committee Chair, Dave Ackerman was an RSO and coach, Bruce Warren was an RSO and coach, Jack Grehan was an RSO and coach, Carol Tedrick was a coach and Richard Tedrick was a coach and Laura Tonkin was an assistant.
