Big 2nd helps EC girls pull away from BHS

LEES CREEK — East Clinton’s girls basketball team overcame a slow start Saturday to defeat Blanchester 64-43 at ECHS.

After leading 7-6 after one period, the Astros outscored the Wildcats 24-2 to open the second quarter. It was a 26-5 quarter in total as East Clinton put the game away.

The Astros made 10 of 16 from the floor in the second quarter (62.5 percent). Blanchester made just 1 of 11 (9.1 percent).

East Clinton led by as many as 26 (49-23) with 6:11 left in the third quarter.

Libby Evanshine led the Astros with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kami Whiteaker, Lauren Runyon and Gracie Evanshine added eight points each. Eleven different Astros scored.

Olivia Potts and Daelyn Staehling had 10 points each to lead BHS. Lana Roy added nine.

It was a tough shooting day for the Wildcats, as they converted just 21.6 percent (8 of 37) if their shots in the first three quarters combined. This included 0 of 11 from three-point range.
