Criteria puts Burg on top at EC junior high duals

LEES CREEK — With a three-tie atop the standings, Williamsburg won the 12th annual East Clinton Junior High School wrestling duals Saturday at the EC gym.

Wilmington’s Rodger O. Borror Middle School was second and East Clinton third.

The three top teams were all 4-1 as Wilmington defeated Williamsburg but lost to East Clinton and East Clinton lost to Williamsburg but defeated Wilmington. The order of finish was determine by preset criteria and Williamsburg was crowned champions.

CNE, Dixie and Bethel-Tate rounded out the six-team field.

The Astros had three unbeaten wrestlers – Colton Brockman 4-0 with four pins at 134, Gabe Lightle 4-0 at 142 and Owen Roberts 4-0 at 245.

Braeden Haywood won four matches at 110. Chase Carpenter won three matches for EC at 205 while Jade Griffith won two matches at 205.

East Clinton scores were 24-18 win over Dixie, 30-24 win over Borror, 36-28 loss to Williamsburg, 30-6 win over Bethel-Tate and 30-18 win over CNE.
