ADA — The Wilmington College men’s swimming team opened its 2020-21 season with a 211-63 Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet loss to Ohio Northern University Saturday afternoon.

The Fightin’ Quakers had four performances that earned either event wins or runner-up finishes headlined by Dane Klosterman’s win in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.53 seconds. Teammate Sha’bhir Thompkins also swam that event, coming in second by touching the wall in 32.38 seconds.

Coincidentally, Wilmington’s two other top individual performances also came in events 50 yards in length. Logan Schroer’s time of 25.47 seconds in the 50-yard butterfly earned him second-place honors while Cameron Bolen also finished runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (23.09 seconds).

“I was really impressed with our freshmen swimmers as several of them had near lifetime best performances in their first college competition,” WC head coach Trip Breen said. “The first meet always gives us a good opportunity to see what we need to continue to focus on and get over those first few anxious swims.”

The Quakers have a week off before returning to the pool on Feb. 13 with a home meet against the University of Mount Union.
