GREENFIELD — The Wilmington High School reserve baseball team defeated McClain 6-1 Wednesday at MHS.

Ben McCallister gave up three hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings on the mound. He struck out four then gave way to Brady Bergefurd who struck out the only batter he faced to end the game, coach Dustin James said.

Nate Lakes had two hits and stole a base. Grant Mayer had two hits and scored a couple of runs. He also stole two bases. Hunter DeWeese had a hit and drove in two runs. Nathan Barker had two singles, walked twice, stole two bases and scored two runs.

“Ben pitched a great game on the mound,” James said. “Ben was able to get ahead of hitters and keep his two-to-one strike-ball ratio that we talk about. The defense played well as we only committed one fielding error. Our pitching and defense was much better compared to our previous three games. We were able to combine for 10 hits and six walks today. That allows us great opportunity to move base runners around and score runs.”
