Wilmington College senior quarterback Kyle Barrett has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Barrett, a native of Columbus and a graduate of Beechcroft High School, completed 25-of-43 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns along with six rushes for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Perhaps most impressive, Barrett engineered a 16-play, 99-yard drive late in the fourth quarter that led to the game-winning touchdown in a 26-21 victory over Capital University in the season-opener.

“It took Kyle a half of football to shake off some rust, but he was pretty special in the second half and was there for our team when we needed him the most,” WC head coach Bryan Moore said. “He didn’t flinch when he was struggling early on, and I think that says a lot about his growth and maturity. I love that kid.”

Barrett was aided by fantastic offensive line play as the five Fightin’ Quakers’ up front earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week. Barrett was sacked just one time.

“I’m sure Kyle will be the first person to credit his offensive line for the time he had to get through his progressions,” said Moore.

Wilmington (1-0) heads to Otterbein University Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
