ALLIANCE – The Wilmington College men’s lacrosse team fell in its first mid-week matchup 17-2 to the University of Mount Union Wednesday evening.

Austin Young started the game with Wilmington’s first goal halfway into the first quarter. Sawyer Starrett followed that with a goal in the early part of the second, assisted by Austin Bondurant. That kept it close with a 5-2 score halfway through the second. A 6-1 run in the second period, however, proved to give Mount Union the edge as the Purple Raiders slowly pulled away.

Wilmington’s number continue to improve as the Quakers hit double digits in saves totaling 14 and won 36 ground balls. Both teams were fairly even on turnovers, but Wilmington was down big in both shots and faceoff wins.

Wilmington (0-4) will be back on the field 1 p.m. Saturday at Townsend Field against Muskingum University.
