Hurricane JV baseball routs Tigers 25-6

The Wilmington High School reserve baseball team defeated McClain 25-6 in five innings Friday on the WHS diamond.

The Hurricane scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and 14 runs in the bottom of the fourth.

“We were able to put the ball in play very well tonight,” WHS coach Dustin James said. “Our kids came ready to hit and did a great job. We did a good job of hitting strikes and having quality at-bats. It was good to see everyone get to play tonight. Guys who came off the bench were ready to go and added a few hits. It was a great team win.”

Nate Lakes had a strong relief outing, retiring all five batters he faced. Hunter DeWeese had three hits, including a double, two walks, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Jake Vaughan had two hits, two runs and three runs batted in.

Drew Spendlove had three hits, with a double, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Brett Bell walked three times and was hit by a pitch. He scored three runs. DJ Ames had a hit, walked twice, three runs scored, two runs batted in and four stolen bases.
