Massie softball rolls on, tramples Tigers 13-1

GREENFIELD — The beat rolls on for the Clinton-Massie softball team. On Monday, the Lady Falcons blasted McClain 13-1 in five innings in South Central Ohio League action.

The win puts Massie at 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the league.

“We came out tonight with strong bats,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “Our only letdown of the night was giving up that one unearned run in the second inning. I was very pleased with our intensity. Other than the our little mishaps in the second inning we were pretty focused.”

Claire Carruthers is picking up steam on the mound. The right-hander is 6-0 on the year and struck out five while allowing just one hit to the Lady Tigers. In her last 29 innings covering her last five outings, Carruthers has yielded three earned runs and six bases on balls while striking out 25 and giving up 22 hits.

“Claire pitched a great game,” Lauer said. “Claire was super with locating her pitches.”

The offense was solid as well with Kelsey Carter and Hailey Clayborn collecting two hits each. Madilyn Newton drove in three runs and Emilie Fisher scored three times.

“The girls are really hitting the ball well,” Lauer added. “We had another game where no one struck out. I keep stressing to the girls to keep putting the ball in play.”
