The Wilmington High School reserve baseball team was defeated by Hillsboro 12-4 Monday in a South Central Ohio League game at the WHS diamond.

Wilmington is now 4-4 on the year.

Grant Mayer and Jason Wilson pitched for the Hurricane. WHS committed five errors in the field.

DJ Ames had three hits, including a double, and two runs batted in for Wilmington. Jake Vaughan had two hits, with a double, and a stolen base. Ben McAllister had two hits and an RBI.

“I was proud of the way we battled, but unhappy with the way we executed in key situations,” WHS coach Dustin James said. “We got down 10-0, but did not give up. This game could have ended in the fifth inning, but we kept battling. We have to continue to hit the ball consistently in key situations and play solid defense behind our pitching. This was our first SCOL loss and it came against a good team. We will have another opportunity against them at the end of the season and if we can improve on the defensive side, I feel we will be much more successful.”
