WHS boys top Blue Lions; girls fall to WCH

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — The Wilmington High School boys track and field team defeated Washington 71-65 Tuesday in a dual meet at the Washington Senior track.

The WHS girls lost to the Lady Blue Lions, 103-34.

For the Lady Hurricane, Ashlynn Hickey and Lauren Heard captured the lone firsts. Hickey went 32-2 in winning the shot put while Heard had a toss of 82-5 and won the discus. Hickey was second in the discus (81-7). Katie Lambcke was second in the pole vault (8-0).

Megan Borton was second in the 100-meter dash (13.13) and second in the 200-meter dash (28.91). In the 200, Chloe Mason was third (31.36). Melanie Brooks was third in the 300-meter hurdles (59.62).

In the 800-meter run, Gethesemane Bray was second (2:57.86) and Keeley Allen was third (2:59.5). In the 1,600-meter run, Heather Fryman was runnerup (6:41). She was also second in the 3,200-meter run (14:41.64).

On the WHS boys side, Ely Schumacher won the 100-meter dash (12.28) with Frantz Cherisca finishing second (12.33). Parker Gunkel won the 200-meter dash in 24.69 seconds with Ely Schumacher third (25.84).

Scott Gehlbach won the 400-meter dash (55.81) with Matt Smith finishing second in 58.84. Simon Heys won the 1,600-meter run (5:06.2) with Bayden Stephens winning the 3,200-meter run (11:32).

Hayden Straley was second in the 800-meter run (2:20.18). Roby Clark won the 300-meter hurdles (42.53) and was runnerup in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.76).

The 4×100-meter relay team of Ryland Bowman, Gunkel, Charlie Schumacher and Ely Schumacher ran 47.27 and finished first. WHS won the 4×200-meter relay in 1:36.98. The foursome was Bowman, Clark, Gunkel and Nic Hayward.

Nathan Taylor won the discus (118-9). Charlie Schumacher won the high jump by clearing 5-2 while Gus McCarty went 11-0 in winning the pole vault. Bowman was second in the long jump (18-6.75).
